In the framework of the EU Integrated Project “From data sharing and integration via VPH models to personalised medicine” (p-medicine), the research unit on “Systems Biomedicine” at the Department of Experimental Oncology of the European Institute of Oncology, invites applications for a postdoctoral candidate for one year with a strong interest in mathematical and computational modelling of cancer growth and anti-cancer therapies.
The focus of the unit is on the trans-disciplinary use of mathematics and physics to model cancer related biological phenomena, for better understanding of biological experiments and clinical trials.
The location of work is Milan (Italy).
The deadline to apply is May 10th, 2011
The successful candidate will have to work on the development, at multiple spatio-temporal scales, of realistic mathematical and computational models for:
-Tumoral angiogenesis and anti-angiogenesis anti-tumour therapies;
-Tumour-Immune system interaction and immuno-therapies;
-Intracellular signal pathways of particular relevance for tumour development, growth and anti-tumour therapies
The interplay with biomedical researchers, involved both in clinical and in experimental research, will be an integral part of the post-doctoral work.
Requirements:
- PhD in Physics or Theoretical Biology or Applied Mathematics
- A good knowledge of biology
- A solid background in both theoretical and computational aspects of mathematical biology
Although we are definitely not searching for a programmer, the candidate must have a good knowledge of computer programming, and of both matlab or mathematica software tools.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist who shares our passion for cutting edge research in theoretical biology of cancer.
How to ask more info or to apply: please contact Alberto d’Onofrio (email: alberto.donofrio_at_ifom-ieo- campus.it).
For applications: please include a detailed CV, publications, and two reference letters.
