Science jobs from Institute for Clinical Molecular Biology, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel: job description
We are one of the three largest university clinics in Germany and with more than 10,000 employees, the largest employer in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. We perform university medical research and teaching at more than 70 clinics and institutes at our medical faculties in Kiel and Lübeck.
The „Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft“ has approved the new collaborative research center SFB 877 (Proteolysis as a regulatory event in pathophysiology) to the Christian-Albrechts university, Kiel. Within the project (TP7): “Genetic variants in protein degradation pathways: from normal population variability to altered inflammatory responses in the intestinal tract”,
1 PhD student positions (3 years)
is available at the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology. The weekly working time is 65% of a full-time position with the possibility to prepare a PhD thesis.
Recent data (Chalaris, A. et al., J Exp Med, 2010; Hampe, J. et al., Nat Genet, 2007, ….) point to a crucial role of genetic variants in protein degradation pathways for the predisposition to chronic intestinal inflammatory disorders (e.g. ATG16L1 and IRGM in Crohn Disease). Within the project, aims are the systematical description of the natural variability in genes involved in protein degradation, the investigation of the association of allelic variants in protein degradation pathway genes with the chronic intestinal inflammatory disorders Crohn disease and Ulcerative colitis including the functional consequences in protein degradation pathway proteins in cell biological model systems.
We are interested in recruiting self-motivated individuals with a desire to succeed and complement the internationally competitive research activities of the laboratory. Research will include molecular biology, cell biology, immunology and high-throughput technologies (Next Generation Sequencing). A background in bioinformatics, cell biology and/or immunology is preferred.
The University aims to increase the number of women among the faculty staff and therefore explicitly encourages the application of female scientists.
