PhD position in cell biology at Univ Mainz Institut for Pathologie

Diposkan oleh Jurnalis on Saturday, May 14, 2011

The Institute of Pathology in Mainz has a PhD position available. The project focuses on the role of unfolded protein response (UPR) in the wound healing. UPR is a signalling pathway that inhibits translation in response to unfolded proteins and at the same time induces the expression of specific proteins, such as chaperones. Wound healing is connected to the increased protein synthesis that makes UPR and chaperones essential. Endothelial cells play an important role in the wound healing by participating in both inflammation and angiogenesis. The project will, therefore, concentrate on the role of UPR in endothelial cells during different stages of the wound healing. The work will be done with human primary endothelial cells and will include various biochemical, molecular- and cell-biology techniques.

The candidate should hold a master’s degree or equivalent in biology or related discipline. A strong background and practical experience in cell and molecular biology is preferred. We are seeking an individual with the ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary group, high motivation and strong English skills

The position is available from 01.07.2011 for 2 years with the possibility of extension. The salary is paid according to TV-L 13 (50 %). Disabled candidates will be preferred if equally qualified.
