Position as PhD Research Fellow (Stipendiat SKO 1017)
available at Centre for Immune Regulation/Department of Molecular Biosciences –
The Centre for Immune Regulation (CIR) is a Centre of Excellence appointed by the Research Council of Norway. The main research focus is on mechanisms of immune dysregulation that cause autoimmune disease and allergy. The five research groups at the Centre have complementary expertise. A major emphasis is placed on the development of molecular tools and technologies that will fertilise the disease-oriented research. Three models of autoimmune and allergic disease are studied in detail to identify novel mechanisms amenable to therapeutic intervention. For more information,
see http://www.cir.uio.no/.The fellowship is for a period of up to 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work. Starting date no later than July 1st.
Job/ project description: The PhD fellowship is available in the group of Professor Inger Sandlie, which is member of The Centre for Immune Regulation and part of The Cell Biology Program at The Department of Molecular Biosciences. We study the structure and ligand binding properties of antibodies and T cell receptors, the specific detecting molecules of the immune system. The present study focuses on how the neonatal Fc receptor functions as a transporter and regulator of IgG levels throughout the body, and how the neonatal Fc receptor is involved in antigen presentation.
Requirements/qualifications: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in molecular biology, and have knowledge of and experience with both immunological and molecular methods. Preferentially, the successful candidate should have experience with transcytosis assays, and knowledge of immune regulation.
The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The fellowship requires admission to the research training program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. An approved plan for the research training, including a project outline, must be submitted no later than two months after taking up the position, and the admission must be approved within three months.
