Job/ project description
The PhD candidate will be part of a strategic program in Toxicology, which is a collaboration between the Department of Biology, the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, the De-partment of Chemistry and the Norwegian Institute for
Water Research (NIVA). There is in addi-tion an ongoing collaboration with the National Institute for Public Health (NIPH) and the Faculty of Medicine on method development related to this project. At the Department of Biology, Toxi-cology is part of the Integrative Biology research programme. This project will focus on mechan-isms for DNA damage and repair in invertebrate and vertebrate model species. The comparative aspect is important and the candidate will be expected to perform exposure studies with and analyses of aquatic and terrestrial species, including springtails, water fleas, polychaetes, bivalves, seastars and fish. The project will include studies that range from mechanisms for tox-icity in cellular models to whole organism studies with the species mentioned above. The candi-date will be expected to plan and run exposure experiments and work with molecular and cellu-lar techniques, e.g. Comet analysis, gene expression (qPCR), ELISA and western blot, as well as in vivo visualisation.The stipend is for a fellowship to complete a PhD within the field of toxicolgy/ecotoxicology. The candidate will be jointly supervised by Professor Ketil Hylland, Department of Biology (main supervisor) and Research Director Gunnar Brunborg (NIPH).

Requirements/qualifications
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in ecotoxicology/toxicology.
The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
The fellowship requires admission to the research training program at the Faculty of Mathe-matics and Natural Sciences. An approved plan for the research training, including a project outline, must be submitted no later than two months after taking up the position, and the admis-sion must be approved within three months. Salary
Pay grade: 48 - 56 (NOK 383 700 – 440 500 per year)
