PhD Fellowship in botany is available at Natural History Museum (NHM), University of Oslo (for 4 years). The position is linked to the research group National Centre for Biosystematics (NCB) .
The Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, is the largest of its kind in Norway with ca. 150 employees engaged in research, museum collections, teaching and popularizing the science of botany, mycology, zoology, palaeontology and geology.
We seek a highly motivated enthusiastic individual for a PhD project that will investigate the taxonomy and phylogeography of a selected group of Northern European vascular plants. Various genetic analyses, such as DNA sequencing and DNA fingerprinting form the basis of the project. The project involves field-work and laboratory work, as well as work in herbaria and computer-aided statistical and phylogenetical analyses.
You will join an active team of biologists. The NCB is an interdisciplinary research centre in biosystematics and biodiversity which integrates the research groups of 11 faculty working on plants, fungi and animals, see: http://www.nhm.uio.no/forskning-samlinger/forskning/forskningsgrupper/ncb/.
The applicant must have a master’s degree (or equivalent) within biology and good written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of vascular plants from Northern Europa and experience with the use of molecular methods in ecology and systematics is an advantage.

The purpose for the fellowship is research training leading to a successful completion of a PhD degree. The fellowship requires admission to the research training programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Appointment to a research fellowship is conditional upon admission to the Faculty’s research training programme. An approved plan for the research training must be submitted no later than one month after taking up the position, and the admission approved within three months. A good command of English is required for all students attending the University for Oslo. International students who are not native speakers of English must document their proficiency in English by taking one of the following internationally recognised tests:

Salary for position code 1017:
Pay Grade: 48 – 54 (383 700 -425 600 per annum, depending on qualifications)
