PhD Positions in Experimental High Energy Physics

PhD Positions in Experimental High Energy Physics, The Center for Particle Physics and Phenomenology (CP3) of the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) invites applications for at least TWO research positions aimed at obtaining a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics in the context of the CMS experiment. Research activity in the Center is equally strong on the theoretical and on the experimental fronts and collaboration between the two is on-going and very much encouraged. The Center includes twelve faculty members, several post-doctoral fellows and Ph.D. students. Further information on members and research activities can be found on the CP3 website.

The experimental group of the Center has contributed significantly to the design and construction of the CMS silicon strip tracker and has been deeply involved in its commissioning and operation since the early stages. The Center hosts one of the two Belgian Tier 2 of the CMS GRID and includes a very strong computing team that helps CMS experimentalists to complete their research. The group is also involved in Research and Development programs related to possible extensions of the CMS experiment and to the Super-LHC. The NA62 experiment at the SPS accelerator of CERN has also been recently joined. The current experimental activities in CMS include:

Standard Model physics: electroweak, top physics
Higgs physics
BSM physics (Z', HSCP, ...)
Forward physics
Research and development programs in HEP instrumentation.
Letters of application, CV and two or three recommendation letters from senior scientists should be submitted using the on-line form only.
