Ph.D. student (graduate student) positions in signal transduction and stem cell biology of acute myeloid leukemia
The Department of Hematology and Oncology, Otto-von-Guericke University Medical Center, has an opening for two Ph.D. student positions (E13/2 TV-L) for three years. Thereafter, further extension of the contract or a position as a postdoctoral fellow will be considered. Applicants are expected to hold a masters degree (equivalent to Dipl.-Biol.) and to have a strong interest in signaltransduction and stem cell biology.

The research project investigates molecular mechanisms of oncogenic signaling of mutated FLT3 tyrosine kinase in acute myeloid leukemia stem cells using FLT3-ITD mouse models. This theme will be expected to connect with major “on campus” subjects as signal transduction, inflammation and immunology (Sonderforschungsbereich SFB-854, graduate school GRK-1167).

The candidate will be integrated in a friendly team of highly motivated scientists and physicians and will be working in an internationally visible and fully equipped laboratory. This project is conducted in close collaboration with the Department of Hematology/Oncology, University Ulm (Prof. Dr. K. Döhner, PD Dr. L. Bullinger) and the Division of Hematology/Oncology, CHB, Harvard University Boston (Prof. Dr. S. Armstrong) and data will be presented and discussed at regular meetings.
Several research projects of our laboratory are participating in multicenter research programs of the German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebshilfe) and of the German Research Council (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). These are the multicenter research groups „Oncogene Networks in AML“ and „Soft-Tissue Sarcoma-KOSAR“ funded by the Deutsche Krebshilfe and projects within Sonderforschungsbereich SFB-854 and graduate school GRK-1167.
