PhD/ Doctoral position Computational Structural Biology at TU München Germany

Doctoral position available in the independent research goup “Computational Structural Biology”www.langelab.ch.tum.de at the Bavarian NMR Center at the Chemistry Department of the TU München.Development of algorithms for the determination of biomolecular structures in atomic resolution from sparse NMR data. The applicant will extend the promising CS-Rosetta approach (cf. Raman et al. 2010, Science / doi:10.1126/science.1183649) to utilize other sparse data sources, e.g., paramagnetic enhancement relaxation (PRE) or solid state NMR and will develop algorithms to improve the conformational search. The PhD-student will apply the methodology to actual structure determination problems in collaboration with international NMR labs. The work, thus, gives the exciting opportunity to develop a method with an immediate high impact for biomolecular structure determination and to gain many contacts in the international NMR community. We expect:
• a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Natural Sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biomedical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, etc.). Candidates about to obtain their degree are welcome to apply.
• high motivation and interest in joining one of the interdisciplinary research areas of the TU
• creativity and interest in shaping your own thesis project
• an integrative and cooperative personality
• good communication skills in English (the language of many of your collaborators)
We offer:
• a highly communicative atmosphere within a scientific network providing top-level research conditions
• a PhD salary after TV-L E13/2 for three years according to the rules of the DFG (German Research Foundation) as well as generous research funding
• access to excellent high-performance-computing resources (in-lab and external)
• a comprehensive mentoring program with efficient supervision by a team of supervisors
• a top-level PhD training program with courses in state-of-the-art research technologies and soft skills
